Answers to the most common questions about applying for housing, the application process, paying rent, and living at HABG.

Applications & Eligibility
Before You Apply
You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for public housing. For Fort Webb Manor under PRAC 202, you must be at least 62 years of age to apply.
The time frame varies depending on the number of vacancies and how many people are applying for housing. The waiting list also varies depending on which bedroom size you are qualified for.
There are three steps. First, you complete an application with all required documents. Second, HABG verifies all applicable information according to policy — once all paperwork has been verified and the applicant is found eligible, the status changes from pending to eligible. Third, the family is placed on the waiting list according to the type and size of unit needed, and the date and time the application was received.
Every applicant is subject to our screening process that includes, but is not limited to, a criminal background check and former tenancy history. Applicants who owe a housing authority or any other federally subsidized program funds will not be processed for occupancy. The applicant must pay the funds owed prior to the application being processed. After the application is processed, the applicant must meet all other conditions for occupancy. Repayment of funds does not necessarily qualify an applicant for occupancy.
We do not have or provide emergency housing assistance.
Public Housing is owned by the Housing Authority, which also manages the property it leases. The family has a lease agreement directly with the Housing Authority. Section 8 housing is owned and managed by private landlords. With Section 8, the assistance portion of the rent is paid directly to the landlord and the tenant pays the balance of the rent to the landlord.
Rent & Payments
Paying Your Rent
Your rent is determined by a HUD calculation using a combination of your income minus allowable deductions. You pay 30% of your adjusted monthly income for rent.
Rent is due on the first day of each month. If rent is not received on or before the first business day after the tenth of the month, you will be issued a 14-day notice and a late fee will be added to your account.
We do not accept cash. Rent must be paid by check or money order made payable to the Housing Authority of Bowling Green. If your personal check is returned for non-sufficient funds, you must pay by Cashier's Check or Money Order within 10 days of notification. The total due at that time will include your rent amount plus $30.00 ($20.00 late fee and $10.00 non-sufficient funds fee).
Your Lease
Moving In & Out
If you are moving out, you must complete a written Notice of Intent to Vacate thirty (30) days prior to your moving date.
